Janathon Day 2: Lumphanan Detox 10k

Something I learned today, well I say learned really I just had the following point driven home... REST THE DAY BEFORE A RACE!!

Beautiful run today in the Lumphanan Detox, good crowd, beautiful route and although it was freezing (I swear hypothermia was a real risk at the start) once we got going it was just gorgeous. I highly recommend it for anyone in the Aberdeenshire area. It starts with a 2k hill, and it is a killer. So daunting but so good at the same time. I have to confess that I did get a boost from being able to overtake here - sometimes a little boost like that is what we need right? And after the uphill came the downhill.... a loooong downhill giving us a chance to pick up some speed. Sadly though the cold and lack of water (you know the people that you see always running with a water bottle? Thats me) had me suffering, that and having run 10k yesterday. At about 6 legs my legs got heavy... and at 7k as we turned off the road onto undulating farm track I really was in the mood for walking. I am happy to say that although I slowed, I didn't stop and kept on going.

I had mentioned Mr Claire in my last post, and his ability to crack on (my legs just wont do it!) we had aimed to run together, but I was finding it tough so he had to go rather than struggle at my slightly slower pace. But when I lost sight of him that was is for me. So, next race, thats it. I need to get my pace up. I am fed up and frustrated with hovering around the 54minute 10k time. I joined Fetch this week too so hoping that getting on their will help boost me on, finding out my WAVA is so far motivation enough, fingers crossed by the end of Janaury I will manage to pick up my times a little.. or maybe I should rest the day before a race.
